Theorising Skin: Queer Readings of Photography

From Queereal Secretions.
Edited by Henry Rogers and Nicky Coutts.
Glasgow: Glasgow School of Art, 2023

This essay comprises of fragmented texts where each text presents a theoretical approach to my work Skin. The essay presents critical discussions on what queer knowledge could look like when the messiness of art practice meets the logic of theory. Queerness is through the artwork Skin materially articulated as the conventions of the rectangular and flat image is scrutinised and overturned. These fragmented texts draw from encounters in the studio and the gallery and borrows from Karen Barad’s concept agential realism and Jack Halberstam’s writing on queer temporality.
