Portraits of Him

Portraits of Him (2007) is a body of work depicting friends whom I met in London in my late twenties. By photographing these trans men in soft daylight and by applying traditional studio portrait strategies (head and shoulder compositions), I sought to explore new possibilities of representing trans-maleness, beyond the conventional queer aesthetics of the time which typically comprised of documents from bars and clubs in saturated colours. Each of these portraits seeks to present its sitter in his best light and Portraits of Him as a whole could be seen as a homage to different expressions of trans-masculinity.
